Trash Talking Starts Early as Pacquiao vs. Mosley Fight Approaches

Larry Merchant

The fight between eight-division champion boxer Manny Pacquiao and former five-time champion Shane Mosley isn’t scheduled until May 7. But according to reports, the trash talking from both sides has already begun.

AOLNews.com reports that Pacquiao’s legendary trainer, Freddie Roach, recently suggested that his fighter would be the first to knock out 39-year-old Mosley in his long, decorated career (46-6-1 overall record).

“Shane is a tough guy. He has a good chin and he’s dangerous,” Roach told AOLNews.com. “He is faster than

Pacquiao vs Mosley Fight Camp

Episode 1 of Pacquiao-Mosley Fight Camp 360 debuted this afternoon on CBS. The notion of a boxing fight being promoted and showcased on one of the major networks was certainly excited, and it was all a part of the channel's buildup towards the Final Four games later in the evening. So Pacquiao vs. Mosley was getting some great attention here, and in the four-part series, several of the episodes will debut on CBS before airing on Showtime.

Pacquiao vs. Mosley Fight Camp 360 Episode 1

As Pacquiao vs. Mosley Fight Camp 360 Episode 1 began, James Brown introduced the show and the fight. We're then in the Philippines, and see some of the craziness associated with Pacquiao making a simple trip to the mall, with a song saying "welcome to my world" in the background. Pacquiao welcomes us to the first episode of Fight Camp 360. We see Pacquiao highlight knockouts, Pacquiao answering boxing questions, Pacquiao singing, Pacquiao answering questions about the 2013 election, and more.
Mosley talks about he feels he has been disrespected by so many of the people who have been counting him out in this contest. Mosley's trainer Naazim Richardson, and Mosley's son, talk about how that disrespect is producing more motivation than anything else, and Mosley says he'll get the last laugh.
We see a lavish mansion filled with Pacquiao portraits and pictures, and pictures of himself and his wife, as some team members wait to get him rolling. Pacquiao is running behind schedule, but Mosley has already arrived for a photo shoot. He walks in and innocently claims, "I'm not late", strolling around with sunglasses and his entourage. He doesn't want to wear any makeup, and he doesn't want to be sprayed with water so he doesn't get sick.
The photo shoot is over and the press tour madness is underway. Bob Arum claims that Pacquiao is the best boxer he has ever seen, of course, he says that about whoever he is rooting for at the moment. Trainer Freddie Roach says that he doesn't want people telling Manny that it's an easy fight, because it's not, and he needs to be training hard.
Mosley and his camp are talking about how Manny's style is great for Mosley, because he won't go running. He'll be able to get in there and really trade. Of course, even if Pacquiao doesn't run, it doesn't mean he'll be easy to hit - Manny darts in and out against dangerous opponents, making it very difficult to nail him.
Everyone is prepping for the Vegas press conference. Pacquiao didn't get on a plane the night before though, as he was supposed to... instead he's driving up late with some of his team that day. A member of his team talks about how he thrives on chaos, as long as he creates the chaos. At the press conference, fans ask the fighters questions, including asking if Pacquiao is a Justin Beiber fan because of his fighter, if Mosley has the aspirations to run for Congress, and a young boy asking Pacquiao how he will deal with Mosley's body work.
Back to some downtime for Pacquiao, and he's playing the piano and singing a bit. His wife Jinkee talks about Manny a bit and how in the Philippines it's so crazy with everything he has to do. Downtime for Mosley includes playing some pool with his camp manager and getting ready for camp at Big Bear. Mosley talks about how he needs to compete at everything, and how by 10-years-old he knew he would be world champion. Mosley misses his final shot in the game, and his opponent wins their session, to much oohing and aahing.
Shane walks through the mall with his girlfriend Bella Gonzalez, and Mosley jokes that people in the mall see her first, and only notice him after they wonder who she's walking with. Nonetheless, he takes some photos and chats a bit with fans. At the Loews Regency Hotel in New York, Mosley chats it up with Reverend Sharpton.
